They say invention is the mother of necessity and I have no reason to believe that is not true. For every person that developed something society uses today, a person who thinks outside of the box was at the forefront of the planning. From the child safety seats to cell phones being able to track the owner’s movement, all of this started with a “what if” statement. How can this apply to your career journey? What if you decided to go to college for sound engineering at Full Sail University and decide to graduate and find a job in a large metropolitan area because you did not know of a single place you could work in your hometown. You are successful in finding a job and you live in that large city for several years before finally moving back to your hometown. This is a probable journey for an aspiring sound engineer from a rural area but “what if” you decided to complete your education, move back to your city and start your own business teaching others how to understand music engineering? What if you go to local bars and host a talent show? Maybe you could do these and other outside of the box things towards becoming the person in the career of your passion. It doesn’t really matter what you do or how you do it and honestly you don’t even have to go to a traditional school for some careers in the music industry. You do have to allow yourself time and dedication. Even if you don’t think you are smart enough to get into college to follow a career path in medicine or engineering, you still can work in the field or close to it. After you discover your passion and the career that is best for you, follow that road without taking any detours.
